A Q&A with Spanish director Elena López Riera inaugurated the new series of events at the Cinema of Fondazione Prada.
Presented as part of the #Supernova section, exploring the filmography of young filmmaking talents, the director introduced the Italian premiere of El Agua (2022), the luminous feature debut of Elena López Riera, whose mystical and sensorial work is permeated by documentary sensitivity and great formal and narrative modernity.
BIOGRAPHY
Elena López Riera is a visual artist and filmmaker from Spain. Her first short film, Pueblo premiered at the Directors’ Fortnight of Cannes Film Festival in 2015 and was selected for over 20 international festivals. In 2016 her movie Las vísceras was selected for the Locarno Film Festival. Her third film, Los que desean, nominated for the European Film Awards, won the pardino d’oro at Locarno Film Festival in 2018. The last feature film El Agua Presented at the Directors’ Fortnight at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, it was also selected at the Toronto and San Sebastián festivals, and nominated for two Goya awards: best debut for Elena López Riera and best new actor award for Luna Pamies as Ana.
