Synopsis
Young newlyweds Rosemary and Guy Woodhouse move into an apartment building in New York inhabited mostly by elderly people. Guy is an actor and just getting his career started: he works in theater, has done a few advertisements and yearns to become famous. Rosemary has just graduated from college. The couple is welcomed by the friendly Castavets, neighbors who are as hospitable as they are invasive. Soon Rosemary becomes pregnant, but her pregnancy proves to be a nightmare: thin to the point of emaciation, wracked by pain and made suspicious by the death of a friend who has warned her about the Castavets’ satanic ties, Rosemary becomes convinced she’s the victim of a maleficent plan that involves Guy, whose acting career has taken off in the meantime. She tries in vain to seek help from a doctor, but when the baby is born the child is mysteriously stolen away.
