Synopsis
A poor Polish office worker, Trelkowsky, rents an apartment in Paris formerly inhabited by a girl, Simone Choule, and still furnished with her things. A few days earlier Simone attempted suicide by leaping out of one of the apartment windows. Trelkowsky goes to the hospital to try and talk to her about the apartment and meets her friend, Stella. The two become involved. But the shy Trelkowsky’s life is upset by continuous interruptions by his neighbors and strange visions he sees through the apartment window. Everyone treats him as if he were Simone, and Trelkovsky becomes increasingly convinced that there is a plot against him, and Stella is part of it. Desperate, he decides to dress up like Simone and leaps out of the same apartment.
