Coinciding with the opening of the exhibition “Sueño Perro: Instalación Celuloide de Alejandro G. Iñárritu” at Fondazione Prada in Milan on 18 September 2025, the #Soggettiva section retraces the filmography of Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the five-time Academy Award-winning Mexican director, screenwriter, and producer.
On Friday 19 September, the director will lead a masterclass moderated by Paolo Moretti.
BIOGRAPHY
Alejandro G. Iñárritu is a Mexican director, screenwriter, and producer, winner of five Academy Awards. Renowned for his psychological dramas exploring the human condition, he has directed films such as Amores Perros (2000), 21 Grams (2003), Babel (2006), Biutiful (2010), Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014), The Revenant (2015), and Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths (2022). In 2006, he became the first Mexican director to win Best Director at the Cannes Film Festival with Babel and to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Director and producer. In 2015, he won Academy Awards for Best Original Screenplay and Best Picture for Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance), becoming the first Mexican in history to receive these honors. He also won an Academy award for Best Director for Birdman, and the following year for The Revenant, making him the third director ever to win this award two years in a row. In 2017, he received a Special Achievement Academy Award for the virtual reality installation “CARNE y ARENA”, dedicated to the experience of migrants crossing the border between Mexico and the United States. In 2019, Iñárritu became the first Latin American president of the Cannes Film festival jury. He is currently in post-production on a new film produced by Warner Bros. and Legendary, starring Tom Cruise. Today, Iñárritu is regarded as one of the most influential filmmakers in the world.
