The thematic meetings explore common aspects of Alzheimer’s, Huntington’s, Parkinson’s, Multiple Sclerosis and ALS – the five most widespread neurodegenerative diseases investigated in the project ‘Preserving the Brain: A Call to Action’.
The topics concern transversally people with experience of the different diseases, their care-givers and family members and affect the whole community.
The meeting ‘Inclusive Living. Beyond Barriers’ includes multidisciplinary talks by clinical experts, planners and academics. Starting from an overview on the perception of space and movement limitations in relation to specific pathologies, experimental rehabilitation models and case studies are shared in relation to domestic space: from domotics, to design, to sensory experience linked to architectural design. Finally, some recent proposals are presented in order to go beyond the context of the home and involve the entire community; in the awareness that the intent of ‘enabling’ is not limited to the performance of daily activities, but concerns the possibility of social integration and the person’s right to independence.
