In March #AR focuses on the work of the Mexican director, Alonso Ruizpalacios, and presents his latest work La Cocina (2024) on Friday, March 21, at 8 pm, to mark the opening of the FESCAAAL – Festival del Cinema Africano, d’Asia e America Latina.
After the screening of the film, which was in competition at the 2024 Berlin festival, the director meets the public in a conversation with Paolo Moretti and Alessandra Speciale. The section’s focus of the director will include showings of his feature films Güeros (2014), Museum (2018), and A Cop Movie (2021).
BIOGRAPHY
The Mexican scriptwriter and film and theater director Alonso Ruizpalacios studied at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) in London. His first feature film, Güeros (2014), won more than forty awards in festivals around the world, including the prize for Best first film at the Berlin Film Festival in 2014, and the Audience Award at the San Sebastian Festival. In 2018 he won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay with his film Museo, inspired by real events. In 2021 he was awarded the Golden Ariel for Best documentary with his A Cop Movie (2021), a feature film that is half documentary, half fiction, on the Mexican police force. He returned to the Berlin Film Festival in 2024 with La Cocina, a comedy adapted from Arnold Wesker’s play The Kitchen.
