Pulcinella is sent to modern-day Campania to rescue the buffalo Sarchiapone to conform with the last wish expressed before his death by Tommaso Cestrone, guardian of the Bourbon Palace of Carditello.
Pulcinella finds the buffalo, grants it the gift of speech so it can tell its story, and together they set out on a long journey through a beautiful and lost Italy.
A competition entry at the 2016 Locarno Film Festival, Lost and Beautiful is a tale of an Italy living on the edge, told through the picaresque adventure of a buffalo and Pulcinella, emblematic figures of slavery. This is a work of social commitment that blends fairytale and myth.
