Can the Twentieth century be divided up into four-year plans? What does the scrap trade have to do with culture? What are the mass media able to do?
A young doctor feels superfluous to requirements. A family sits in front of the fire. Someone in a hurry. People who separate themselves from each other.
A carer (Jutta Hoffmann) is to give a child, who has lost its parents and for whom she has been caring for a year, to its relatives. The reception
of the child is such that she takes the child back with her.
Finally the story of the blind director. He lost his eyesight during filming, but created his most beautiful film. The present inflates itself. Yet without the background stories, the future and, above all, the form of possibility, there would be no
reality: the assault of the present on the remaining time.
