Fondazione Prada partnered with Fondazione La Biennale di Venezia to start a program to recover and restore genre films of the 1950s–1970s that had been forgotten, unwatched, or misunderstood. The result was a presentation during the 61st Venice International Film Festival of a retrospective titled “The Secret History of Italian Cinema: Italian Kings of the B’s”.
The event included a selection of around thirty films belonging to the Italian underground dating back to the 1970s and directed by filmmakers such as Gianfranco Baruchello, Fernando Di Leo, Alberto Grifi, Sergio Martino, and Mario Schifano.
Venue: 61a Mostra del Cinema di Venezia
“The Secret History of Italian Cinema: Italian Kings of the B’s” traveled to: Tokyo FILMeX 2004; Fondazione Prada, Milan, 14–16 December 2004; Australian Centre for the Moving Image, Melbourne, 2005; 62nd Venice International Film Festival, Venice, 2005; Tate Modern London, 2006.
