On Saturday, September 14, Alberto Mielgo — Spanish director and visual artist whose The Windshield Wiper (2022) won the Academy Award for Best Animated Film, as well as author of several animated films that soon became a reference for the genre, such as Jibaro for the series Love, Death & Robots — will present a selection of his works followed by a conversation.
The short film program includes Gentrification (2014), Ubisoft’s Watch Dogs Legion (2020), The Witness (2019), Pill (2010), The Windshield Wiper (2022), Jibaro (2022).
BIOGRAPHY
Winner of an Academy Award and five Emmy Awards, Alberto Mielgo is a Spanish visual artist and filmmaker active in the field of digital art and animation. Early in his career he worked on the art direction of several notable projects, including live performances by Gorillaz, The Beatles: Rock Band videogame, and the Tron: Uprising series for which he won an Emmy and an Annie Award. In 2018, he worked as production designer and visual consultant on Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which won an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature Film. In 2019, he wrote, designed, and directed The Witness episode of the first season of the acclaimed animated series Love, Death & Robots, which garnered three Emmys and an Annie Award. In 2021, he was awarded the Academy Award for Best Animated short film with The Windshield Wiper. His most recent work, the Jibaro episode of the third season of Love, Death & Robots, won two Emmy Awards in 2022, further cementing the director’s reputation as a leading player in the world of contemporary animation.
