The series of multidisciplinary conferences organized by Fondazione Prada and the University Vita-Salute San Raffaele continues with an event devoted to the relationship between art and terror. Germano Celant, Massimo Cacciari and Massimo Donà discussed the theme with artist Tom Sachs, who explores the relationship between imperialist consumerism and terrorism in his works.
The relationship between art and terror is ontological: while some artworks are conceived with the aim of arousing fear in the viewer, others tend to overturn the order according to which we organize our existence. Within our society, the relationship between art and terror expresses the idea-limit of doing politics—expressed by the willingness to use fear as a revolutionary, repressive, irrational weapon—and establishes a connection with the forms that the ‘tremendousness’ of making artwork takes on in this era.
