Cinema Godard, Masterclass con Lav Diaz. Ph Francesca D'Amico

Saturday 11 May, 4 pm, director Lav Diaz meets the audience in a masterclass moderated by Paolo Bertolin, an expert on Asian cinema and member of the selection committee of the Venice Film Festival.

The programme investigates, in collaboration with FESCAAAL, the work of the Philippine director, screenwriter, producer and musician, author of one of the most visionary and original works in contemporary cinema, winner of numerous international awards, including the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival in 2016 for the film The Woman Who Left (2016).


BIOGRAPHY
Lavrente Indico Diaz, aka Lav Diaz, is a Philippine filmmaker, screenwriter, producer, and actor born in 1958. Considered one of the most original directors of the contemporary film scene, he has recounted the darkest chapters of his country’s history in his filmography with rawness and deep lyricism. Since 1998 he has directed eighteen feature films and won several international awards, such as the Best Film award at the Singapore Film Festival for Batang west side (2001), the Orizzonti award at the Venice Film Festival for Death in the land of encantos (2007) and for Melancholia (2008), the Golden Leopard at the Locarno Film Festival for From what is before (2014), the Silver Bear for A Lullaby to the Sorrowful Mystery at the 2016 Berlin Film Festival and the Golden Lion at the Venice Film Festival for The Woman Who Left (2016).
