On Friday, 17 November, the actor Fabio Testi featured in a conversation with Manlio Gomarasca, the founder and editor of the magazine Nocturno, after the screening of Sergio Sollima’s Revolver, which stars the explosive pair Oliver Reed and Fabio Testi, working together on the big screen for the first time.
The event was part of #Nocturna, investigating the universe of genre cinema, with support from Nocturno magazine.
BIOGRAPHY
Fabio Testi entered the film industry as a stuntman for The Good, The Bad, The Ugly (1966) by Sergio Leone. In 1967 he made his screen debut in Straniero… fatti il segno della croce by Demofilo Fidani. Following a short appearance in Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in the West (1968), he played the lead role in Ed ora raccomanda l’anima a Dio (1968), also directed by Demofilo Fidani. In 1970 he was chosen by Vittorio De Sica to play Malnate in The Garden of the Finzi Contini, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Film. From then on, he was often chosen to work in foreign productions directed by such great directors as Claude Chabrol, J. Lee Thompson, and Monte Hellman. His most significant film roles were in: Addio fratello crudele (1971) by Giuseppe Patroni Griffi with Charlotte Rampling, Camorra (1972) by Pasquale Squitieri with Jean Seberg, Revolver (1973) by Sergio Sollima with Oliver Reed, I Guappi (1974) by Pasquale Squitieri with Claudia Cardinale and Franco Nero, L’importante è amare (1975) by Andrzej Zulawski with Romy Schneider, L’eredità Ferramonti (1976) by Mauro Bolognini with Anthony Quinn and Dominique Sanda, Il grande racket (1976) and La via della droga (1977), both directed by Enzo G. Castellari, and Amore, piombo, furore (1978) by Monte Hellman. He has also played the lead in the international cult films Cosa avete fatto a Solange? (1972) by Massimo Dallamano, Vai Gorilla (1976) by Tonino Valerii, I quattro dell’apocalisse (1975) and Luca il contrabbandiere (1980), both by Lucio Fulci. More recently, he appeared in La conjura de el Escorial (2008) by Antonio del Real with Julia Ormond and Jason Isaacs, and Letters to Juliet (2009) with Vanessa Redgrave and Franco Nero. Lastly, Road to Nowhere (2009) by Monte Hellman, which won the Golden Lion at the 2010 Venice Film Festival.
